North Island Tour

Offer Image
Swim next to Mount Pelee, explore the ruins of Saint Pierre, attend a rum tasting and much more with this half-day, intimate group tour of the northern tip of Martinique.

North Island Tour

Climb aboard a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle for an in-depth and comprehensive tour of Martinique's northern side. Enjoy the fact you will be in a small, exclusive group of no more than eighteen guests in your transportation for a more intimate introduction to the island. Volcanic in origin, Martinique is a mountainous show-stopper topped off by the still-smoldering Mont Pelee, the volcano that wiped out the former capital of St-Pierre in 1902.

Begin with a drive over the Caribbean coastal road to your first stop at the family-run Niesson Rum Distillery where you will get to observe the rum making process they've been refining since 1931 to make their premium white rum. Enjoy a brief rum tasting and pick up a bottle or two of your favorites to take home.

Continue your north island tour where you will feel the black sand between your toes as you walk along Carbet Beach. Take a swim in the transparent waters or just relax on the beach and enjoy the view with Mount Pelee in the background.

Drive over to the ruins of Saint Pierre, known as the Little Paris of the Antilles before a volcanic eruption decimated the city in 1902 and discover how this partially rebuilt city was the most cultural and economically important one on the island before it was destroyed. Gaze in amazement at the spectacular Gendarme Waterfalls then walk through the lush rainforest to the beautiful waters of the Alma River.

During this north island tour you will also visit the Sacred Heart Church. Also known as Balata Church, this structure was built in 1924 as a replica of the Basilica Montmartre in Paris and a refuge for the growing Catholic community in Fort-de-France following the 1902 eruption.

This very popular tour sells out fast, book now and remember to bring your camera!

Please Note: On your Gendarme waterfall walk you will hike for 5 minutes (moderate activity). You will cross a river by walking on big rocks or in the water.
