Private Eze And Monte Carlo

Offer Image
Discover the ancient and the elegant of the French Riviera during a picturesque visit to the medieval village of Eze, and the Principality of Monaco.

Private Eze and Monte Carlo

After meeting your professionally trained guide on the pier, you will travel along the middle corniche to the amazing medieval village of Eze.

The area surrounding Eze was first populated around 2000 B.C. The area was subsequently occupied by not only the Romans but also the Moors until they were driven out by William of Provence in 973. In the 1300s the town became a fortified stronghold because of its proximity to Nice. For the next 500 years, Eze was seized by the French, the Turks, and Genoa, until it finally became a part of France in 1860.

Eze has been compared to an eagle's nest because of its location overlooking a high cliff more than 1400 feet above sea level. The oldest building in the village is the Chapelle de la Sainte Croix and dates back to 1306. The shape of the bell-turret is an indication that the village once belonged to the Republic of Genoa. The views, the ancient walls, the twisting turning pedestrian streets lead the mind to wander. Walt Disney spent a significant amount of time in Eze.

The small medieval village has many shops, art galleries, hotels and restaurants that attract a large number of tourists and it has become more of a sight than a town as few local residents live here anymore. Departing from the car park, you will ascend on foot to the lofty village with its small, quaint, cobblestone pedestrian streets. Those making the hike to the top are rewarded with spectacular views as far as Antibes on a clear day.

You will then drive to the Principality of Monaco, the second smallest country in the world after Vatican City. Your guide will lead you on a walking tour through the narrow streets of the old town to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception where the Princes and Princesses of Monaco are buried (including Grace), and then to the Palace Square which is dominated by the residence of Prince Albert II. From the square, you have wonderful views over the harbor and towards the Casino Square area, on an adjacent hill. Free time to explore the small streets of the old town will be taken before returning to the pier.
